Peel Police are warning about a series of distraction thefts which are targeting elderly residents of Brampton and Malton.
Investigators say the suspects are a woman and a man. The female suspect usually approaches the victim saying they have won a free gift, and once she is close enough, she switches their real jewelry with costume jewelry.
The male, meantime, waits in the driver’s seat of a nearby vehicle.
Police say there were seven separate incidents in Brampton on the evenings of October 3 and 4, and four separate incidents in Brampton and Malton this past Wednesday, October 16.
The suspects are described as East Indian or Middle Eastern with medium builds, and about 20 to 25 years old. The woman is described as 5’5″, usually wearing a black Hijab or scarf covering her head, and she speaks with an accent.
Police warn people to be cautious when approached by a stranger.
