Mayor Ford’s policy advisor quits

Rob Ford’s policy advisor Brooks Barnett has resigned one day after the mayor said he has used crack cocaine, the mayor’s office confirms.

There was no immediate word on the reason for his resignation or whether it was effective immediately. Barnett, who also handles council relations, wasn’t immediately available for comment.

Several members of Ford’s staff left the mayor’s office in May and June after news of an alleged video depicting Ford apparently smoking crack first surfaced.

Ford’s policy advisor Brian Johnston and Ford’s executive assistant Kia Nejatian both resigned on May 30. And before their departure, the mayor’s press secretary George Christopoulos and his deputy press secretary Isaac Ransom quit. Ford’s chief of staff Mark Towhey said he was fired.

On Tuesday, the mayor made the stunning admission that “Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine.” But Ford, who said he embarrassed everyone in the city, will forever be sorry and had only himself to blame for the mess, shocked many again when he said he planned to remain in office and run for re-election during the municipal election next October.
