The system is expected to arrive in the Golden Horseshoe area by late Monday evening.

Environment Canada said most areas in the special weather statement could receive five to 10 centimetres of snow.

Local blowing snow is expected due to the strong winds, and drivers are being advised to exercise extra caution due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility.

The weather agency said the snow will taper off by Tuesday morning.

Monday’s forecast for Toronto and the GTA calls for sunshine, then increasing late afternoon cloud, with a high of -5 C, according to 680News metereologist Harold Hosein. He said snow will start early in the evening, with eight centimetres of snow overnight and into Tuesday morning.
