‘Lego’ movies tops box office for 3rd straight weekend

The Lego Movie topped the box office for the third straight weekend, taking in US $31.45 million — more than the second and third-place movies combined.

The animated film is aimed at kids but includes of jokes for adults. Parks and Recreation star Chris Pratt voices the hero, while Will Ferrell provides the voice for the villain, who wants everything in Legoland to look exactly as it does on the box.

Elizabeth Banks is a rebel fighter who rescues Pratt and helps him in his fight against Ferrell.

According to Hollywood-tracking website boxofficemojo.com, The Lego Movie has earned $183.2 million in 17 days, and Warner Bros. is already moving ahead with a sequel. It’s scheduled for a 2017 release.

The website also reports that No. 2 movie 3 Days to Kill made $12.3 million and No. 3 film Pompeii made $10 million.

Kevin Costner’s latest, 3 Days to Kill, is an action-thriller where Costner is trying to give up his life as a spy to spend more time with his wife and daughter. Pompeii tells the story of a gladiator and his true love, in the shadow of the infamous volcanic eruption.
