Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has launched the annual spring cleanup, with special events set for Earth Week from April 22-27.
It brings together thousands of Toronto residents, students, businesses and community groups to keep the city clean and green.
Ford said the Clean Toronto Together program is an important initiative because everyone works together.
He had a rundown of last year’s numbers.
“(They removed) 6,000 tonnes of litter and removed over 6,500 square metres of graffiti and removed over 7,000 illegal posters,” Ford explained.
This year the campaign will also focus on discarded cigarette butts which can take many years to break down.
City staff members are also involved in the campaign with about 300 pieces of equipment, including 50 litter vacuums and 45 sweepers, making the rounds this month.
