Crews battle fire at Scarborough home under construction

Emergency crews are on scene after fire broke out at a home in Scarborough.

Toronto Fire officials say the home in on Heale Avenue, in the Midland Avenue and Kingston Road area, had been under construction and no one was home at the time.

Crews were called to the scene around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Neighbour Steve Mitchell said he was sitting in the basement when a good Samaritan banged on the window to alert him to the fire.

“It was fully engulfed at the time, there was smoke everywhere,” he explained. “We had to hold our breath to get out. We couldn’t see anything through the smoke.”

Witnesses tell CityNews the flames could be seen bursting through the top of the home.

There has been no word on what caused the fire.
