A video showing an altercation between two men and a handful of transit officer has one security expert questions the actions of a constable.
“This is not the kind of set up we want to see in security,” said David Hyde when he watches the beginning of the video. “That is not the way police and security are trained. They are trained to make sure the arrest is tactically safe.”
CityNews reporter Avery Haines points out that punching public citizens in the face does not seem to be something from a manual.
Hyde explained that when officers feel they are outnumbered that they revert to street tactics and all their training goes out the window.
At one point a man is pulled by the hair moments before another round of punches started. Hair pulling is a nerve point and is sometimes used in training, said Hyde.
But is it typical to see punches being thrown by an officer to an individual’s face?
“Typically we see strikes to nerve points to incapacitate them or slow them down and not the face,” said Hyde.
He adds that there are many other areas to gain control like the thighs or arms instead of hitting a critical place like the face or neck.
“These constables do have the training, but I am not really seeing that training manifested here,” said Hyde.
“I am seeing some survival to a certain extent and I am seeing some questionable actions on behalf of the one constable”
