Timmins police release 3 security images of man in standoff

Timmins police have released more information about the 18-hour standoff at a Canadian Tire Store on Wednesday.

Three security images of the man who stole guns from the store and fled have been released. At this point, police believe the suspect is still at-large.

Investigators said the store’s alarm went off at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday and an employee called police after finding an intruder in the building when he or she arrived.

Police searched the area and found that a number of weapons were missing from the firearms display.

Officers evacuated several other stores, shut down nearby roads and Ontario provincial police set up a broad perimeter around the scene because it was believed the suspect was holed up with firearms.

During the standoff, police reviewed security footage, which showed a male entering the store, activating the building’s alarm and taking the weapons from the firearms display. He was carrying a backpack with what appeared to be the barrels of two long guns.

However, the video did not show the man leaving the building.

Police thought the suspect was in the building, but when they moved in late-Wednesday night, they found missing firearms, but the building was empty.

It’s still unknown if the man inside was Clyde Marshall — one of two people wanted in connection with the first-degree murder of a Vaughan man last week — as the man in the pictures is wearing a balaklava that covers his face.
