Students return to Westmount Collegiate after possible threat

Students are returning to a Thornhill school after a possible threat was made Monday morning.

Police wouldn’t comment specifically on what the possible threat against Westmount Collegiate Institute, located on Bathurst Street near Highway 407, was but say no one was injured.

Officials said the building was evacuated around 10 a.m.

Just before noon, police said the investigation was wrapping up and students would be returning to the school which is safe.

Shortly after the evacuation had been announced, a York Region District School Board spokesperson told 680 NEWS there was no reason for parents to be worried.

“Today we received advice from York regional police that we should be evacuating the site and students and staff members are all safe and en route to a designated site.”

Several students posted to social media that it had been a bomb threat made against the school but that has not been confirmed.
