Goodwill stores across the City of Toronto closed their doors only a few weeks ago due to a “cash flow crisis” and already they’re being turned into public parking lots.
As seen in an image posted on Reddit, the Goodwill store located at 231 Richmond St. East has already been converted into a parking lot.
The Goodwill sign has been removed from the building, but the words ‘Thank You’ above the door can still be seen. The brand-new ‘public parking’ sign looks pristine compared to the rest of the building.
CityNews confirmed with the company JustPark that they did approach the buyer to suggest the idea when the stores closed.
Goodwill closed 16 stores, 10 donation centres and two offices – affecting more than 430 workers – due to cash flow problems. It does not affect Goodwills in London, Sarnia, St. Catharines and Hamilton.
More than 400 Goodwill employees were left without jobs.
Employees were initially said would not be receiving their regular pay, but Goodwill says they were paid for the hours they worked up until Jan. 16, the day before the stores closed.
