Markham man killed when stolen plane crashes in Peterborough

A 21-year-old Markham man was killed when a plane crashed onto a Peterborough street early on Friday morning.
He was the only one on board the stolen plane, York regional police said. His name will not be released.
Peterborough emergency crews were dispatched to High Street and Lansdowne Street around 1:30 a.m.
The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was still strapped in when crews arrived.
Peterborough police then contacted York police about the plane.
York police then located the owner of the plane, who lives in Newmarket. He was the only one with keys to the plane, which was kept at the Markham Airport.
The plane was stolen from Markham Airport, police said.
York police, Peterborough police, and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
