A 17-year-old boy is the city’s latest homicide victim after what police say was a targeted early morning shooting inside a Pizza Pizza restaurant.
Police said the teen, identified as Jarryl Hagley, was seated at a table, eating with three other friends around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, when a gunman started firing in their direction. Several employees were also present at the time.
When police arrived at the Lawrence Avenue West pizza shop, they found the boy in the restroom along with a friend that was trying to help.
Hagley’s family says he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time while police say this may have been a targeted shooting.
“It seems to be some sort of targeted attack,” said Det. Paul Worden. “I don’t know if this particular deceased was the target or if it was someone else at his table but they definitely went to that particular table.”
Investigators say Hagley had no criminal record but police had been in contact with them before, however, they would not elaborate.
Trisha Samuels says her stepson was a loving boy who wasn’t a trouble-maker.
“He will be remembered as a good boy, loving, kind, friendly. He loves to try to help everyone as much as he can,” Samuels says. “Sometimes he even goes down to the point of giving his friends his clothes and his shoes to let them feel loved and welcomed in his household.”
“He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Paramedics said the boy was in life-threatening condition when they arrived. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have not released any suspect descriptions, but are urging witnesses to come forward.
“we’re looking for more than one, not certain on the amount,” said Worden. “There is good cameras situated in the restaurent.”
Samuels says she and her partner have little information on what happened and who opened fire at the restaurant.
“We have 100 questions and zero answers.”
