Halloween decorations stolen from Leslieville family’s front lawn

A Grinch has soured the Halloween spirit for a Leslieville couple and their two young boys, when they woke up to their decorations gone.

“People came here and stole our lights,” two-year old Zayd said to CityNews.

Zayd, and four-year old Isa, spent hours putting up the black and orange Halloween lights on Wednesday. Then in the early hours of Saturday morning, their father discovered the lights were no longer there.

“I came home and the lights were gone, which was pretty sucky because I put it up with these guys,” Waseem said. “They were super stoked.”

The Halloween lights were firmly wrapped around the railings on the gates, and the family says they don’t know why someone would go through the trouble of taking them down.

“The extension cord is probably worth more than the lights were worth, and they just left it behind,” Julia said. “That probably was quite a task, unraveling those lights, pulling them off and taking them off.”

Toronto Police said they don’t get many calls regarding stolen Halloween decorations, but warn there could be repercussions for anyone caught stealing.

“It might not seem like a big deal for some, particular the people who committed this act, but they could be charged with public mischief for doing this,” Toronto police spokesperson Alison Douglas-Cooke said.

The family said they didn’t have plans to replace the decorations, fearing they too could get stolen. But CityNews viewer Zack Mraovic was touched after seeing the story and wanted to help the family out.
