Girl, 17, killed in Markham crash, driver charged

A 17-year-old girl was killed and two other people injured after a single-vehicle crash in Markham.

The crash happened at 14th Avenue and Markham Road around 3:05 a.m. on Friday.

It appears the SUV left the road, rolled, and struck a wall at some point. The vehicle, a white Range Rover, had extensive damage, police said.

A 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Later in the day, police said the condition of the driver had improved and she has been charged in connection with the incident.

Jing Jing Pan, 22, of Markham faces one count of dangerous driving causing death.

It’s not yet known what caused the crash.

However, residents in the area told 680 NEWS reporter Carl Hanstke that’s it not the first time a speeding vehicle has gone off road and crashed into this strip mall.
