Two firefighters accused of defrauding families of injured, killed firefighters

Two firefighters are facing charges after money donated to the Ontario Professional Firefighters Association (OPFFA) in Burlington, was never received.

According to police, between May 12, 2011 and February 26, 2014 Warren Paul Atkinson, 52, of Newmarket, and Colin Stuart Grieve, 58, of Stoney Creek, conducted advocacy work to help families of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty apply for WSIB benefits.

After receiving a complaint, the OPFFA conducted an internal investigation into the donations. The investigation revealed several large donations were never received. Police said those donations were linked to Atkinson and Grieve.
