Suspects arrested after violent robbery at Oshawa jewelry store

Five suspects are in custody after a violent armed robbery at a jewelry store in Oshawa, police said.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Valdi’s Jewellery Shop on King Street West near Stevenson Road South.

Police said four people, two armed with handguns, went into the store, smashed glass cabinets and stole jewelry.

It’s alleged they assaulted a 62-year-old employee, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers later spotted the suspect vehicle and gave chase on Highway 401 towards Brockville. As the suspects were trying to get away, they crashed into several police cruisers other vehicles. No one was seriously hurt.

A 21-year-old, three 19-year-olds and a 16-year-old, all from Toronto, face several firearm and robbery charges.

They are all being held for a bail hearing.
