Man charged after shooting himself in the leg downtown

A 35-year-old Toronto man has been charged after shooting himself in the leg early Monday morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m., officers who were working a paid duty shift near Adelaide and Portland streets heard a gunshot.

They found a man on Portland Street with a wound to his right leg and a gun at his feet.

The man had allegedly mishandled the gun, which was hidden in his waistband, and it went off.

He was arrested and taken to hospital, where he remains with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers said they seized the gun and nine rounds of .45-calibre ammunition.

Bruno Ndaye has been charged with eight offences, including reckless discharge of a firearm, possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, and possessing a firearm obtained by crime.
