Flag signed by Canadian music stars to be auctioned off for Gord Downie cancer fund

A Canadian flag signed by 50 music legends will be auctioned off to raise money for The Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research through Sunnybrook Hospital.

The signatures were collected over a six-year period by the organizers of the Big Music Fest, Mark and Miriam Higgins.

Performers, including Gord Downie himself, signed the flag when headlining at the festival.

Other stars who lent their signatures include Bryan Adams, Jann Arden, Blue Rodeo, Arkells, Burton Cummings, Sam Roberts, Mariana’s Trench, Kim Mitchell and April Wine.

“I’m just absolutely thrilled … that we can get so much money for his great cause,” said Miriam Higgins.

The auction on eBay begins June 20 and a cheque will be presented to Sunnybrook in memory of Gord Downie on July 3.

“I think Gord would be blown away,” Big Music Fest president Mark Higgins told CityNews.
