A 48-year-old man is dead and another man has been charged with manslaughter after an altercation led to a suspected hit-and-run in Etobicoke.

It happened around 11 p.m. on Monday.

Emergency crews were originally called to Ninth Street and Garnett Janes Road, near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue, for reports of gunshots heard in the area.

When crews arrived on scene they found the victim lying in the middle of the street, suffering from very serious injuries. Police say civilians were performing CPR on the man when officers arrived on scene.

Paramedics said it was determined that the victim wasn’t suffering from a gunshot wound, but had injuries consistent with being struck by a car.

The man was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Witnesses reported seeing a light grey, four-door vehicle fleeing the scene.

According to police, the vehicle was found a short time later, just three blocks from where the incident happened.

It’s alleged the men were involved in an altercation before the suspected hit-and-run

Constantinos Hondrocostas, 40, of London, has been charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, failure to stop at a scene of accident causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and impaired by drug.
