Another youth arrested after Jewish teens allegedly robbed, assaulted

By News Staff

A second youth has been charged in connection with an alleged robbery and possible hate crime on Sunday.

Four 17-year-old boys wearing Jewish religious attire were walking in the area of Dell Park, near Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue West, around 8 p.m.

As they passed a group of 10 youths, the youths made derogatory comments about the boys’ religion and allegedly punched and kicked two of them.

The assailants also allegedly stole a pair of sunglasses from one of the victims before fleeing.

Police were called and managed to track down and arrest one of the suspects.

The victims were treated for their injuries at the scene.

On Wednesday, police said they had arrested another suspect, who was 17 years old at the time of the alleged offences.

He was charged with assault and robbery and is due in court on Dec. 18.

He can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are still looking for eight suspects in their early teens.
