Woman dies after SUV crashes into couple on Davenport Road

By News Staff

A Toronto woman has died after an SUV crashed into her and her husband in the Yorkville area on Saturday morning.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Davenport Road, east of Avenue.

Police said it appears the couple had just finished cleaning a building and were loading supplies into the trunk of their SUV, when a westbound GMC lost control and plowed into them. They were pinned to the back of their car.

Paramedics took the woman, who is in her 30s, to hospital with critical injuries and she died soon after. Her husband was also taken to hospital and is expected to survive.

Police said the driver of the GMC was the only one in the vehicle.

Officers do not yet know what caused the crash, but are looking into all factors.

“Please if you’re tired, if you’re distracted or you have consumed any kind of substances that would impair your ability to drive a motor vehicle, do not drive,” Sgt. Orang Momeni said.

“Lives are in jeopardy … we need to prevent this situation from happening by being more cautious before we get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.”

Davenport was closed for several hours for the investigation.

CORRECTION: An earlier version if this story said three people had been struck by the car.
