Canada Revenue Agency experiencing day 2 of intermittent online issues

By News Staff

For the second day in a row, people are having trouble filing their taxes online.

The Canada Revenue Agency says it is having intermittent issues with its online services.

Parts of the CRA website were down for most of the day on Monday as well, as a result of what the Canada Revenue Agency called a “computer hardware issue.”

The deadline to pay any taxes owing is April 30.

The CRA provided CityNews the following statement:

“All online services provided by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) have been operational today. However, between 6:00am and 11:45am EDT today some taxpayers may have experienced difficulties accessing some online services, including Auto-Fill my Return and Represent a Client. The issue, which was related to a server configuration, was resolved by Shared Services Canada (SSC) at 11:45am.

“The CRA and SSC are working closely together to ensure continuity of all CRA services and to quickly address any disruptions as soon as they occur.

“The CRA regrets any inconvenience this has had on taxpayers as well as tax preparers.”

It’s not the first time that services have gone offline for the CRA during tax season.

In 2017, the agency took down its tax filing service as a precaution after a breach at Statistics Canada raised concerns about vulnerabilities with the CRA system.

Three years prior, the CRA system was shut down in 2014 after officials found a digital breach of its systems.

A network outage affected passport services at some Service Canada centres on Tuesday morning as well. Passport Canada tweeted about the issue around 8:45 a.m. and says the problem was resolved around noon.
