Canna Cabana, last of five legal pot shops in Toronto opens

By News Staff

More than two months after the deadline set by the provincial government, the fifth and final legal marijuana store opened in Toronto today.

Canna Cabana, which is owned by Alberta-based High Tide Incorporated, opened its doors on Yonge Street near College.

It’s expected to be the highest profile of the 17 Canna Cabana-branded locations in Canada.

Canna Cabana joins Ameri, The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co., Nova Cannabis and Tokyo Smoke as shops available to sell legalized pot in Toronto.

The government chose 25 retailers through a lottery to open the province’s first brick-and-mortar cannabis stores on April 1, but fewer than half met that deadline.

According to the AGCO, seven of the licencees forfeited their entire $50,000 letter of credit for failing to meet the opening deadline.

Of the licenses issued by the province, only two GTA area stores – one in Oshawa and one in Burlington – have yet to open.
