Pedestrian struck and killed in downtown Toronto

A pedestrian has died after she was hit by a truck near the Eaton Centre.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Queen Street East and Victoria Street just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Paramedics said the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was rushed to nearby St. Michael’s Hospital in serious to critical condition. Police said the pedestrian died of her injuries a short time later.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene.

Police say this is the 13th pedestrian death so far this year and the 25th road fatality in 2019.

The intersection of Queen and Victoria was closed while police investigated.
