Two people are dead and a third person has been air-lifted to hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Durham Region.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at the intersection of Simcoe Road near Old Simcoe Road in Port Perry, just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

Police said a pick-up truck and a passenger vehicle collided “violently.”

The pick-up truck caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived on scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck and the driver of the second vehicle were both killed in the crash.

An elderly female, who was a passenger in the other car, was taken by air ambulance to a Toronto hospital in critical condition.

Simcoe Road has been closed in both directions.

Police are looking at all possible factors to try to determine what caused the crash – including weather and road conditions.
