Peel police ID victim, suspect charged in fatal Mississauga stabbing investigation

Peel Regional Police have released the name of a victim and charged a man in connection to a fatal stabbing incident in Mississauga this past Sunday.

Police said they were called to a home in the area of Roadside Way and Ninth Line near Eglinton Avenue West and Winston Churchill Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Sunday following reports of a woman screaming.

When officers arrived they found a woman suffering from stab wounds.

The victim, 25-year-old Brittney Newman of Mississauga, was pronounced dead at the scene police said.

Two children under the age of six were also located at the home and were not hurt.

Officers arrested Abdiljibar Mahamoud, 27, at the scene.

Later, Mahamoud was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the incident, police said.

“The victim and Abdiljibar Mahamoud were involved in a previous relationship,” police added.

Mahamoud appeared in court on Monday for a bail hearing.

Police said they continue to investigate the case and ask anyone with information to contact the homicide and missing persons bureau directly or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
