    A cyclist is dead after a hit-and-run in Markham on Monday morning.

    Emergency crews were called to the scene at Carlton Road and Old Ivy Lane near Kennedy Road just before 8:30 a.m.

    Police said the 50-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

    The vehicle that struck the cyclist fled the scene.

    Police have not released a description of the vehicle.

    Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have video footage of the area is being asked to contact York regional police.
