Walmart Canada is under fire for selling an “All Lives Matter” t-shirt on its website.
The phrase is considered an offensive counter to “Black Lives Matter” and dismissive of the movement.
Twitter users are drawing attention to the problematic t-shirt online and asking for an explanation from Walmart Canada.
Are you kidding me @WalmartCanada???
Disgusting. Do better. https://t.co/xKiE82NAWi— Kate Udle (@KateUdle) June 23, 2020
In one response on Twitter, the company says the item is sold and shipped by a third party seller. They add that they’ve forwarded the comments to the appropriate department to look into further.
Further exploration of the website shows there are also “Blue Lives Matter” and “Police Lives Matter” branded items for sale.
In a statement to 680 NEWS, Walmart Canada says:
“At Walmart Canada, we stand against any form of racism or discrimination. We promote listening, seeking to understand and embracing individual differences. Today, our third-party marketplace has a number of items with variations on the phrase “lives matter”. We will continue to review those items to ensure compliance with our terms and conditions.”
The company has not said whether the t-shirts will be removed from the website.
