An 11-year-old boy has died after falling approximately 30 feet through a skylight at a North York school.
Police say just before 5:30 p.m., five youths scaled Victoria Park Collegiate and mounted the roof over the gymnasium when one of the boys fell through the skylight to the ground below.
Paramedics transported the boy via emergency run to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The name of the boy has not been released.
Police say the remaining youths who were on the roof have been identified and some have already been interviewed.
Police say from their initial investigation there does not appear to be anything suspicious or criminal connected to this incident and that it looks like a case of misadventure.
Both police and a spokesperson for the Toronto District School Board say, given the age of the youths, they are not students who attend the high school.
Ryan Bird with the TDSB says there are “multiple” skylights on the roof of the school, however, he was not aware that there was any type of work being done on any of them or what condition they were in at the time of the incident.
Initially police said the victim was a 14-year-old boy but later corrected it to an 11-year-old.
