Person found dead inside York home after fire
Toronto police say a person has been found dead inside a home that went up in flames in York on Tuesday.
Toronto Fire crews were met with heavy black smoke when they arrived at 497 Westmount Avenue near Rogers Road and Dufferin Street.
Investigators say the fire started in the basement of the home and quickly spread.

The flames also spread to a neighbouring rooftop, but were quickly extinguished.
Paramedics transported a man to hospital with minor injuries.
Upon further inspection, a deceased person was discovered inside the home.
“I extend sincere condolences to the family, friends and all those impacted by the fatal fire on Westmount Avenue this afternoon,” Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg tweeted.

Pegg said an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
In a separate fire Tuesday, a person was found dead on the second floor of a home in North York. That blaze is also under investigation.
