An 11-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a Milton pond Saturday afternoon.

Halton Regional Police said they were called at around 2:30 p.m. to a stormwater management pond near Reese Court for a report that a child had fallen through the ice.

Police said two boys had ventured out on to the ice covering the pond, when they suddenly both fell through.

One of the boys was able to get out of the pond after trying to help the other boy and ran to a nearby home for help.

Fire, paramedics and the Halton Police Marine Unit all arrived at the scene and began searching for the missing boy. He was located about 15 minutes later and life-saving measures were started, police said.

Police said the boy succumbed to his injuries at Milton District Hospital at around 4 p.m.

“Police ask that the child’s family be granted privacy at this time,” police said. “Investigators from the One District Criminal Investigation Bureau will continue to investigate the occurrence.”

A gofundme page has been established to assist the family. The campaign has already surpassed its initial $10,000 goal, having raised more than $26,000.
