2 officers injured during bank robbery in Mimico

Two officers are in hospital after responding to a bank robbery in Mimico. Police say the two suspects arrested are responsible for multiple robberies in the Etobicoke area.

Toronto police say two officers have been injured after responding to a bank robbery in Mimico.

Officers were called to the scene at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Allen Avenue for reports of a hold-up at a bank around 7 p.m. Friday.

Two plainclothes officers arrived almost immediately as they were in the area. An altercation ensued inside the bank and both officers suffered injuries. The officers are currently in stable condition, one suffered a stab wound while the other sustained cuts from a knife.

Two suspects have been arrested and police say there are no outstanding suspects. Police say the two people arrested are allegedly responsible for multiple robberies in the Etobicoke area.

No further details about the other robberies have been released at this time.

One was arrested inside the bank while the other fled the scene and after a short foot chase down Lake Shore Boulevard, they were arrested.

Two knives were recovered at the scene.

The two officers injured were plainclothes officers for 22 Division’s Major Crime Unit.

Mayor John Tory released a statement, saying he was thankful the officers are being treated in hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.

“Tonight is a reminder of the dangers our @TorontoPolice officers face every day & the important work our first responders do keeping us all safe,” read his tweet.
