A 17-year-old boy is in hospital after being shot in an apartment unit near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

Police were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a shooting.

The male victim was located with a gunshot wound to the chest outside the building and was transported to hospital by emergency run.

According to Duty Insp. Michael Williams, the victim was shot inside the unit and attempted to leave before collapsing outside.

He suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Williams said there were at least five people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Two are cooperating with police while two others fled the scene.

The two males believed to be in their teens or early 20s that fled are being considered suspects.

Police say all the people were known to each other and at least one person in the unit was a resident of the building.
