By news staff

One person is in custody after a fight led to a police pursuit across downtown Toronto overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the area of York Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, for reports of a person acting aggressively and assaulting ,or attempting to assault, multiple people.

The suspect fled the scene in a car before police arrived.

Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle near College Street and Spadina Avenue around 2 a.m. They tried to stop the vehicle but the suspect fled.

Police lost the suspect at least twice and each time called off the chase.

Officers eventually tracked down the suspect and the pursuit led them to Queens Quay and Freeland Street, just east of Yonge Street.

The suspect was taken into custody and then transported to hospital with injuries believed to be suffered from the original assault.

One police officer also suffered a knee injury.
