Man dead following early morning shooting in Scarborough

A man is dead and a homicide investigation is underway following an early morning shooting in Scarborough.

Police received a call around 4:50 a.m. on Friday about a shooting near Kennedy Road and Ellesmere Road.

Police tell CityNews the victim was with his dog on a sidewalk on Kennedy, just north of Ellesmere. He was shot just before 4:30 and then ran to a nearby gas station with his dog.

The victim collapsed outside the gas station and the attendant called 911.

When paramedics arrived on scene they found the man with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as 54-year-old Douglas Devlin of Toronto.

Devlin’s dog stayed at the spot where he collapsed for several hours before being taken away by animal services.

There are no word on any suspects.

Police are asking for anyone with information or dashcam video to contact them.

This is Toronto’s sixth shooting murder in a week.
