An elementary school in Toronto’s east end has been temporarily shut down after 13 students and staff tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the latest data, 11 students and two staff members at Precious Blood Catholic School in the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) have tested positive for the virus from November 1 to November 7.
“Due to an ongoing COVID-19 investigation, TPH is recommending that students at Precious Blood Catholic School be temporarily dismissed from in-person school and activities starting Monday, November 8,” Toronto Public Health (TPH) said in a tweet on Sunday.
The board said it has “notified close contacts and ask them to stay home, monitor for symptoms and get tested. We’ll work closely with our school partners to determine when in-person learning will resume.”
As of Sunday evening, the TCDSB has 41 active cases of COVID-19 among students and four cases among staff. In total, there are 18 schools with active cases.
As per direction from @TOPublicHealth, Precious Blood Catholic School is being temporarily dismissed effective Nov. 8 as a precautionary measure due to an ongoing #COVID19 investigation.
We're working closely with TPH & will keep the school community informed on date of return.
