Toronto school shifts back to virtual learning after COVID outbreak declared
Officials at Toronto Public Health have shut down a middle school in East York to in-person learning due to a COVID-19 outbreak, effective Wednesday.
Cosburn Middle School, located on Cosburn Avenue just west of Coxwell Avenue, has reported 16 active cases of the virus. On its COVID-19 advisories page, the Toronto District School Board lists 15 students and one staff member as having tested positive. It’s unclear at this point if the school is dealing with any cases of the new Omicron variant.
On the advice of @TOPublicHealth, all students at Cosburn MS are being dismissed effective tomorrow, Wednesday, December 15, to allow TPH additional time to investigate COVID cases at the school.

All students will be moving to remote learning during this time.

The TDSB made the announcement on Twitter, adding that all students would be moving to remote learning as Toronto Public Health carries out its investigation. All extracurricular activities have also been cancelled.
TDSB’s Executive Officer, Ryan Bird, says there is no set return date for students, but adds “given that we’re heading into the winter break, I would assume they’ll be able to return after the break but we’ll wait to hear from TPH.”

A total of 47 schools in the city are now dealing with outbreaks — all of which remain open to in-person classes except Cosburn MS.
