Toronto police Chief James Ramer has tested positive for COVID-19, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) confirmed on Friday night.
In a release, the TPS said Ramer tested positive on Friday afternoon and is “asymptomatic.”
Ramer was tested “out of an abundance of caution” because of his regular interactions with members of the community and police service, the TPS said.
“I am feeling well and continue to work while I isolate at home,” Ramer said in the release.
“I am fully vaccinated and I will continue to take all necessary precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19. I would encourage everyone to do the same. Get fully vaccinated including a booster shot, practice physical distancing and wear your mask.”
The TPS says Ramer is working with Toronto Public Health and the TPS Wellness Unit to ensure close contacts are notified directly.
