More than 400 kids were vaccinated at a youth vaccine clinic at the Toronto Zoo on Saturday.

Mayor John Tory and Chair of the city’s board of health Councillor Joe Cressy attended the clinic in the morning to welcome some of the families. The clinic was open for children five to 11 years old.

The city-run clinic was in partnership with the Scarborough Health Network and the Scarborough Ontario Health Team.

Included with a vaccination appointment was free admission to the Zoo. The clinic also vaccinated around 50 adults.

The City announced Saturday that it is rapidly ramping up its vaccination capacity to more than 1.2 million doses per month, up from 400,000 per month on Monday.

Toronto is holding its last “Vax the Holidays” clinics before Christmas this weekend as the push continues to get residents a vital third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Kids aged 5 to 11 will not be able to get vaccinated at these clinics.

Thirty-five per cent of Ontario kids between the ages of 5 and 11 have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine after 10,439 shots were administered on Friday.

Toronto confirmed 851 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday.
