Toronto, GTA could get up to 5 cm of snow Thursday evening

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Toronto and the GTA, calling for snow on Thursday evening.

“A swath of snow is expected to move through the region from west to east beginning this evening and continuing overnight,” the advisory states.

The national weather agency said around two to five centimetres of accumulation is expected to fall by the time the snowfall tapers off overnight. There are weather advisories in Halton-Peel, York-Durham and Hamilton.

A high of near -1 C is expected in the GTA on Thursday with a low of -2 C.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” says Environment and Climate Change Canada in the advisory. “If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”

Looking ahead to Christmas Eve, late-day showers are in store for the GTA with the possibility of wet flurries north of the region, with the high hovering near 3 C.

Unfortunately for those dreaming of a white Christmas, Thursday’s snow isn’t likely to hang around. On Christmas Day, it doesn’t appear the GTA will see flurries or snow. It will be mostly cloudy with showers and a high above seasonal near 5 C.
