Police Taser, arrest sword-wielding woman damaging vehicles in Oshawa

A woman has been arrested after police say she was found damaging property while armed with a sword in Oshawa on Sunday night.

Durham Police responded to a call near Centre and John streets around 9:30 p.m. after witnesses reported someone damaging parked vehicles in the area.

Police say they arrived on scene to find the female suspect armed with a large sword. It is alleged she would not adhere to the officers’ requests to drop the weapon and an officer deployed his conductive energy weapon when she turned towards police with the sword in hand.

The woman was subsequently disarmed and arrested. Police say she was taken to a local hospital and has since been medically cleared.

Police have charged the 39-year-old with possession of a dangerous weapon and failure to comply.
