The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and its teachers’ union reached an agreement to avoid a complete work stoppage on Friday.
“In a show of good faith, and as a result of constructive dialogue with the TCDSB, [the] TECT has decided to pause full withdrawal of services,” the Toronto Elementary Catholic Teachers announced. “Classes will continue as expected on Monday, January 31, 2022.”

The union sent a memo to teachers on Tuesday saying the TCDSB would deduct pay from staff that have refused to take part in testing gifted students under their current work-to-rule campaign.
The strike would have resulted in elementary teachers not reporting to work and subsequent closures at the affected schools.
Toronto’s Catholic elementary teachers had been without a contract since 2019.
