Police treating recent vandalism as hate motivated incident

Toronto police are treating a recent act of vandalism as a suspected hate motivated incident.

Police say just before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night, a number of vehicles parked at the Cineplex theatre at Queensway and Islington avenues were damaged by a sledgehammer.

Police say the damaged vehicles had Russian flags displayed in their windshields.

The suspects are described as male, one in his late teens wearing a grey sweater and another wearing a black sweater. The pair were last seen fleeing the scene in a dark grey Acura.

“After consultation with the Service’s specialized Hate Crime Unit, the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate motivated offence,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
