Man, teen boy facing 50-plus charges in GTA retail robbery spree

A 23-year-old man and a teenager are facing more than 50 charges following 16 retail store robberies across the GTA early Friday morning.

The robbery spree stretched across Toronto, Peel Region, York and Halton regions between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on April 1.

Police allege that during the robberies, a man and a boy entered the establishments in a “takeover-style” demanding everyone get down on the floor, using both verbal and physical threats of violence. In each case they took a large quantity of cash and cigarettes before fleeing in a car with stolen licence plates.

In the last incident they were in possession of a firearm, according to police.

Police say with the assistance of the Emergency Task Force, they located the vehicle in the area of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East. Following a short foot pursuit, the pair were arrested.

Niko Gokool-Clark, 23, of Mississauga is facing 29 charges including seven counts of robbery and robbery with a firearm.

A 17-year-old from Toronto is facing 22 charges including seven counts of robbery and robbery with a firearm. He cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Crime Justice Act.

Both appeared in court on Friday.
