Military officer retires, heads to Ukraine amid sex misconduct investigation

By The Canadian Press

OTTAWA — A senior military officer who was under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct has retired and travelled to Ukraine.

Defence sources say lieutenant-general Trevor Cadieu hung up his uniform on April 5 while still under military police investigation.

The sources, who were not authorized to comment publicly, say the lieutenant-general has since left to help Ukraine defend against Russia’s invasion.

The 30-year military veteran was slated to take over as commander of the Canadian Army in the fall.

But his change of command ceremony was suspended while military police investigated what they described as “historical allegations” of sexual misconduct.

Cadieu could not immediately be reached for comment, but has previously denied any wrongdoing and alleged the complaint against him was intended to sow doubt in his ability to lead.
