Teenage boy arrested, two suspects at large after attempted carjacking in Rexdale

Toronto police have arrested a teenage boy and are on the lookout for two other suspects after three males attempted to carjack a woman in Rexdale on Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to a call just before 6 p.m., in the area of Islington Avenue and Bergamot Avenue, three men approached the victim in a Wal-Mart parking lot after she stepped out of her vehicle.

Police allege the suspects demanded the victim’s keys and grabbed her purse. The women was knocked to the ground during a “violent struggle” and screamed for help.

Two of the male suspects fled the scene on foot while a third fell as he was trying to flee. A bystander coming to the woman’s aid called 9-1-1 and was able to hold the suspect who fell until police arrived.

Toronto police have arrested a 16-year-old boy from Toronto and charged him with armed robbery and disguise with intent.

After the arrest, police located a replica handgun, and clothing worn by the two at large suspects.

The other two suspects are both described as black with a thin build.

The 16-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on June 28.
