Man arrested after spitting at young girl, hitting her mother: Toronto police

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly spat at a young girl and hit the girl’s mother in the early morning hours in downtown Toronto on Sunday.

Officers responded to a call shortly after 1 a.m. after getting reports of an assault near Yonge and Dundas streets.

Police allege a man approached a 10-year-old girl and her mother in the area and proceeded to spit at the girl and then strike the mother.

Bystanders who witnessed the altercation chased the man away as the victims called police.

Officers found the suspect on Sunday afternoon and arrested him.

Police have charged 29-year-old Jimmie Garley, of Toronto, with two counts of assault and breach of his recognizance. Garley attended a bail hearing on Monday.
