No injuries reported after large 5-alarm fire at Etobicoke recycling yard

No injuries have been reported after a massive blaze broke out at a cardboard recycling plant in Etobicoke. It's not clear what caused the fire.

No one injuries have been reported after a large five-alarm fire broke out at a cardboard recycling depot in Etobicoke on Wednesday night.

The blaze started around 10:30 p.m. at Global Waste Services recycling yard at 86 Shorncliffe Road, south of Dundas Street.

Firefighters forced entry upon arrival and found a large fire deep inside the plant. The fire was upgraded to five-alarm around 1 a.m.

Toronto Fire Services says significant resources were required to bring the blaze under control. Crews were still on scene checking for hot spots as of 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Mayor John Tory tweeted about the ongoing effort and says heavy machinery is being used to bring out piles of cardboard and “extinguish it by load.”

“Crews will be on scene throughout the day continuing this process until all hot spots have been extinguished,” says Tory.

No injuries or damage to buildings have been reported.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the fire.
