A warm front moving in is bringing higher temperatures and humidity until Thursday.

If you have been missing the summer-like heat and humidity, it is expected to return to Toronto and the GTA starting Tuesday. For those who don’t like the intense heat, make sure to have your cooling-off options ready.

“Summer-like heat and humidity are building. It will feel a little warmer today than the temperature indicates and then by Thursday, you’ll really notice it,” CityNews 680 meteorologist Jill Taylor says.

A high of 25 C is in store for Tuesday but it will feel like 29 C with the humidity, and the humidex will further climb to around 33 by Wednesday.

By Thursday, the temperature is expected to soar to 30 C and the humidex could hit near 40. With the high humidex, there is the potential for showers and thunderstorms.

Taylor says it is unlikely Thursday’s intense heat will break a temperature record in Toronto. The city set a new, daily temperature record of 32.8 C on May 31 — shattering a previous record of 31.1 C that was set in 1944.

She says this intense heat with be “short-lived, it’s not going to stick around,” adding that it will be less humid on Friday.

For those looking for ways to cool off in Toronto, the City has a list of cooling spaces that include community centres and libraries. The City also operates more than 140 spray and splash pads in its parks. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. until Sept. 18.

Summer officially arrives next week, at 5:14 a.m. ET on June 21.
