Man’s body recovered after golf cart crashes into pond in Richmond Hill

York Regional Police say a 71-year-old man’s body was recovered from a pond after a golf cart crashed into the small body of water in Richmond Hill.

Investigators were called to DiamondBack Golf Club, located near Leslie Street and Bayview Avenue, around noon on Monday for reports of an incident at the golf course.

Authorities say a man crashed the golf cart and fell into the pond.

Staff Sgt. Dave Mitchell says the man’s body was recovered several hours later after first responders could not locate the victim in the water.

“We believe that the driver lost control of the golf cart before going into the pond,” Mitchell said. “Other golfers on the course tried to locate the individual before police arrived.”

York Regional Police’s marine unit discovered the body of a man. Mitchell says the golf cart was fully submerged under the water.

The victim’s family has asked for privacy, and the man will not be identified.

It’s unclear if he was driving the cart alone or with other golfers at the time of the incident. Mitchell says investigators are still trying to determine how the golf cart ended up in the pond.

Police say the death does not seem suspicious.
